In Geneva, February 1926, a watch dealer and maker, the house of “Veuve de Philippe Hüther”, registered the trademark “The TUDOR” for Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. The house transferred the brand to Wilsdorf in 1936. Following the Second World War, Hans Wilsdorf recognized this was a perfect time to branch out and give “The TUDOR” it's own identity. Therefore, on March 6, 1946, “Montres TUDOR S.A.” was created; a brand specializing in models for men as well as women. These timepieces were guaranteed the technical, esthetic and functional characteristics by Rolex, who was also responsible for the distribution and after-sales service.
“For some years now, I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standard of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the TUDOR watch company.”
